Time to hit the road from Disconnected Towers and head to Sunderland – our second visit this year. After the inaugural Sunderland Comic Con, we have been lured back by the promise of Wonderlands, a graphic novel expo organised by forces-of-nature Bryan and Mary Talbot.
It looks like a great event – with some of the most interesting established and emerging graphic novel creators in the country in attendance. And they’re letting us in 🙂
As a special treat for visitors to Wonderlands, we have gathered together some books that we don’t normally have available, notably:
On Dangerous Ground – the official graphic novel commemorating the Battle of Bannockburn, drawn by Disconnected’s own Conor Boyle. It’s an amazing book – in part because of the level of historical detail brought to the project by the National Trust for Scotland, but also because it’s a mix of black and white pages, colour and 3-D.
Who On Earth Was Thaddeus Mist? – one of our favourite books of recent years, coordinated by Disconnected 3 writer and comics firebrand Owen Michael Johnson, and featuring artwork by Conor Boyle and writing by Disconnected 3 contributor Max Deacon.
I should also mention that both of the above have letters by the one and only Jim Campbell, who has lettered all of our Disconnected volumes and was the lettering glue behind our political satire anthology CROSS.
Come and find us in Sunderland on Saturday. Say hello, have a look at some books, ask us any questions you have about writing, drawing or publishing comics – we’re always happy to chat about how we work and find out about different projects and approaches to our shared love: making comics.
