Nasty Boys

Sometimes writers and artists are just meant to be together. I can’t claim anything than blind editorial luck on this one, but the moment I saw Martin Simmonds‘ artwork for PM Buchan‘s script All Roads Lead to Hell, I knew that I’d got something right.

All Roads Lead to Hell will feature in Disconnected Vol 2, launching in November at ThoughtBubble in Leeds. It’s one of those twisted and macabre tales where no-one is quite what they seem. You’ll love it.

Here’s a little sample of Martin’s art:

Introducing Bettina Fung

Time to meet another of our new creators:

Bettina Fung is the artist for The Pit, a story in the forthcoming anthology How To Kill Bears. We met Bettina earlier this year and were immediately captivated by her enthusiasm for comics and the brilliance of her art. Originally trained as a computer animator, she has followed her artistic instincts into film-making, paintings and comics, to mention a few.

It was Bettina’s drawings which really drew me in – have a look at her gallery at http://www.bettinafungwanshan.co.uk/gallery.html. The twists and contortions in the way she draws human anatomy really struck home and made her the perfect choice for some of the physical nastiness in The Pit.

Here’s Bettina in her own words: Continue reading →

Great news about Lost: Boys…

Great news unless you want to buy a copy, that is….

We’ve been staggered by the demand for and the response to Lost: Boys and can now officially confirm that the first print run has SOLD OUT!

A second print run is on its way and we’ll also be creating a digital version for download. More details on availability as soon as we can, but the print versions will definitely be ready in time for ThoughtBubble in Leeds next month.

Thanks to everyone who made Lost: Boys happen, who bought it, who reviewed it and who wrote to us to tell us what they thought!

Time to meet two more of our creators! Disconnected Vol 2 is coming together as smoothly as an anxious editor will admit and one of the highlights is a gem of a story called Pests, from the pen of Matthew Craig and the pencil of Neil McClements.

Matthew made us laugh the first time we met him: when he was speaking at a Con panel about how depressing life can be as a writer and comic artist. The more depressed he got, the funnier it was. This probably says as much about us as it does about Matthew….

Neil is a graduate of the Disconnected system. Which makes us sound very grand but basically means he drew for us earlier in the year (his art for the story Lee provided a fabulous conclusion to Lost: Boys), and we wanted him back.

Matthew Craig and Neil McClements: up close and personal. Click to read more….

How to Kill Bears is our follow-up to Lost: Boys, an anthology of four stories written by Lizzie Boyle featuring artwork by relative newcomers. The reception for Lost: Boys was fantastic; so much so that we’ve sold out of print copies and plan to launch a digital version in the coming weeks.

But enough of that, what about these bears?

How to Kill Bears will follow a similar format to Lost: Boys. Four stories written by Lizzie, made real by some incredibly talented new artists. Let’s introduce you to one of them, the lovely Bekah Withers. Continue reading →
