Writers! Artists! You want ’em? Here they are!

It’s time to meet all of the creators whose work we’ll be featuring in our anthologies at Bristol Comic Expo (12/13 May 2012, don’t miss it!!).

Disconnected Vol 1 is our anthology of small town stories, curious things that happen away from the eyes of the big cities. We are delighted beyond measure to have a cover from the incredible Matt Timson (*does a little dance*) but you’ll have to wait til Bristol for a look at that one! We’ve brought together a team of some of the finest independent and small press talent that we know, people on the verge of comic greatness (we hope!). You can meet the whole creative team here.

Lost: Boys explores what happens when you start to make your way in a world that’s much bigger than you thought. The four stories were written by Lizzie Boyle, working with a group of artists who are starting out in comics and whose work merits a wider audience. Find out who’s who here.

If you want to know more about Disconnected Press, or pre-order your copies of Disconnected and Lost: Boys, email lizzie@disconnectedpress.co.uk.

Louis Carter and his childhood secrets

Time to meet another of our creators. This time it’s Louis Carter, who’s drawn a strip called Billy for one of the anthologies we’ll be launching at Bristol Comic Expo.

I saw Louis’ work first under the guise Cthulouis on the 2000AD Forum. Some of his line work was so intricate that I wanted to see more! We worked together on a strip called Storage, published in Back From The Depths’ Hallowscream in October 2011. His work there made him a natural first choice for the story of Billy.

Meet Tom Foster: a great future in comics awaits

Artist Tom Foster first came to our attention last summer at the Comics Launchpad event in Birmingham with a portfolio full of talent. He came back on the scene at ThoughtBubble where he was runner-up in the 2000AD Portfolio Competition (behind another of our Disconnected artists, Gavin Mitchell – we borrow from the best :-)).

When writer Rich McAuliffe presented his typically gentle script to us, it was Tom that sprang to mind. But you’re probably wondering: who is he? It’s hard to believe that Disconnected will be Tom’s first published sequential work, but it’s easy to see that it won’t be his last….

Congrats to Neil McClements (featured here!) on the announcement that he’s working on a new comic called Salvage for Irish publisher Abandoned Comics. Read more about that on Irish Comic News, or have a look here at our interview and a sneak peek of the story he’s drawn for our forthcoming anthology….

If he’s not having fun, it won’t get done: meet Neil McClements

Time to meet another of our creators, this time from our second anthology which features four stories drawn by relative newcomers. We were keen to give a group of newer artists greater exposure, and it’s something we intend to do again later in the year.

I first saw Neil McClements’ art on the 2000AD Online Forum. He’d posted some samples for scrutiny by forum members – always a sign of someone who’s got some cojones as they can be a merciless lot. I loved his eye for character, his textures and his ability to get a LOT of atmosphere into a single image. When I presented him with the script for Lee for our anthology, I knew those things would stand him in good stead: the story has a very specific and well-known time, place and cast list….

Here’s a little bit more about Neil McClements: Continue reading →
